The Zebra DS2278 is a cordless barcode scanner that pairs with a charging cradle. It reads both traditional (1D) and 2D barcodes and sends scanned items straight to your register.

Basics
-
Cordless: the scanner works away from the cradle and charges when set back in it.
-
Cradle: keeps the scanner charged and holds it when not in use.
-
A good scan gives a beep and, usually, an LED flash.
Everyday use
-
Point the scanner at the barcode and pull the trigger; the aiming light helps you line it up.
-
Return the scanner to the cradle between uses so it stays charged.
Basic troubleshooting
|
Issue |
What to try |
|---|---|
|
No beep / nothing scans |
Check the battery - set the scanner in the cradle to charge, and make sure the cradle is powered. |
|
Scans beep but nothing appears in the register |
The scanner may have lost its pairing. Re-pair it by scanning the pairing barcode on the cradle (see below). |
|
Won't read a specific barcode |
Clean the barcode if it's smudged, try a steadier angle/distance, and make sure the item's code exists in your POS. |
|
Scanner feels dead |
Leave it in the cradle to charge for a while, then try again. |
Re-pairing the scanner
If the scanner stops sending scans to the register:
-
Make sure the cradle is powered and connected.
-
Scan the pairing barcode printed on the cradle or place it in the cradle you want to pair.
-
Wait for the confirmation beep, then test a scan.

Care
-
Keep the scan window clean; wipe it with a soft, lint-free cloth.
-
Avoid dropping the scanner onto hard floors.
