Your POS Terminal

Getting Started: Opening, Using, and Managing Transactions

The home screen

Your terminal is locked to a kiosk mode - staff can only use a few approved apps, and there's no full Android home screen to get lost in. The POS app icon is one of the main things on the home screen.

Depending on how your terminal is set up, the POS may:

  • Open on its own when the device starts up, and/or

  • Open on its own if the terminal is left sitting on the home screen too long, and/or

  • Open when a staff member taps the POS app icon on the home screen.

Opening the POS

Power on the terminal (if it isn't already on) and open the POS - either it launches automatically or you tap its icon. You'll see a startup screen while it gets ready: it signs into your POS and loads your register in the background.

When everything is ready, a Continue to POS button appears with a short countdown. Tap it, or just wait for the countdown to finish, and you'll land in the register.

If the register is taking a while, the Continue button will still appear after a short wait so you can proceed. If the terminal can't reach your POS (for example, the internet is down), the startup screen shows a Retry button - check the network and try again.

Using the register

Once you're in, the terminal works like your normal Odoo POS:

  1. It's already signed in - no login needed.

  2. Ring up sales, refunds, and payments as usual.

  3. The screen runs full-screen so staff aren't distracted by other apps.

Payments

Payments are processed through your POS using the payment methods set up for your store. If you need to change how payments work, that's done in your POS settings - not on the terminal itself.

Receipts and the cash drawer

On terminals with a connected receipt printer, receipts print automatically and the cash drawer opens when a sale calls for it. If a receipt doesn't print or the drawer doesn't open, see Troubleshooting and the Hardware section.

Keeping products and prices up to date

The terminal loads fresh data from your POS each time it starts, so restarting the app is the simplest way to pick up new products or price changes.

To refresh without a full restart, use Sync Data in the Manager Tools menu.
